标题:The Potential of Low Field NMR Spectroscopy for Polymer Characterization

报告时间:2025年10月16日(星期四) 15:00-16:00

报告地点:人民大街校区惟真楼219会议室

主讲人: Manfred Wilhelm

主办单位:化学学院

报告内容简介:

Compact benchtop NMR spectrometers using Nd-Fe-B magnets enable efficient polymer characterization. This talk highlights their design and applications in analyzing polymer pyrolysis oils, coupling with SEC/HPLC for compositional profiling, and DOSY-NMR for molar mass distribution.

主讲人简介:

Professor Manfred Wilhelm grew up on a wine farm in Maikammer/Pfalz in Germany, and studied Chemistry at the University of Mainz from 1986 to 1992 with a stipend of the Friedrich-Ebert Society. During this time, he joined the University of Toronto as a DAAD exchange student, working on fluorescence detection of CMC in block copolymers under Prof. M.A. Winnik.

He obtained his Ph.D. in 1995 at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz under Prof. H.W. Spiess, focusing on multidimensional NMR methods to study orientation and dynamics in polymers. Afterward, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann-Institute in Israel with Prof. J. Klein, supported by a MINERVA stipend.

From 1997 to 2004, he was a staff scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, where he completed his habilitation on non-linear mechanical methods for characterization of materials—work that earned him the Reimund-Stadler Prize of the German Chemical Society in 1999.

He subsequently held a joint professorship at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, leading the “Mechanics of Polymers” group. Since 2006, he has been Professor of “Polymeric Materials” at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he also served as Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Life Sciences from 2019 to 2021. In 2022, he was elected as a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz.
