报告内容简介:

In this talk, we will introduce our recent results on the relationship between Finsler metrics and the degree of symmetry of closed manifolds. We first show that the degree of symmetry of a closed manifold $M$ is equal to the maximum of the dimensions of the groups of isometries of all possible Finsler metrics on $M$. Moreover, let $M$ be a connected compact manifold and $N(M)$ be the degree of symmetry. If $M$ is not diffeomorphic to a compact rank one Riemannian symmetric space, then there exists a non-Riemannian Finsler metric on $M$ such that the group of the isometries of $F$, $I(M, F)$, has dimension $N(M)$.

邓少强,南开大学数学科学学院教授、博士生导师,享受政府特贴专家,教育部数学专业教学指导委员会委员,入选教育部优秀青年教师资助计划和新世纪优秀人才支持计划,获宝钢优秀教师奖,全国高校自然科学二等奖(第一完成人),天津市教学名师奖,天津市五一劳动奖章等多个奖项。主要从事李群与微分几何的研究,在Adv.  Math., Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., Int. Math. Res. Not. IMRN,Math. Z.,Israel J. Math.等重要期刊发表论文100余篇,2012年由Springer出版社纽约分社出版的独撰专著《Homogeneous Finsler Spaces》列入著名数学专著系列Springer Monographs in Mathematics中。主持国家自然科学基金重点项目、面上项目,教育部博士点基金项目。
